Medical Diagnostic Unit

The MDU Department is a multi-disciplinary clinical non-invasive testing laboratory equipped and staffed to facilitate diagnosis in patients referred with suspected or known disease of the cardiac, respiratory, neurologic or neuro-muscular systems.

The MDU Department performs the following tests:
  • EEG (Electroencephalography)
  • EMG (Electromyography)
  • PFT (Pulmonary Function)
  • ECHO (Echocardiography)
  • GXT (Graded Exercise Test).
The MDU Department is located on the first floor of the hospital, right beside the Cancer Clinic for EEG, EMG and Pulmonary Function tests, and on the lower level, beside Nuclear Medicine, for Echocardiography and Graded Stress tests.

patient having a cat scan test Your visit may take anywhere from a half-hour to one and a half hours, depending on your particular type of test. On the day of your test(s), you should continue taking your medication, unless otherwise indicated by your family doctor or the ordering physician. You may have to fast depending on the type of test. For Graded Exercise Tests and EEGs, you cannot drink caffeine on the day of the test. For specific details, check with the MDU Department.
